Spotted: The Real Deal
Now that we've all grown accustomed to the sight of two-and-a-half-ton parade-float neo-Challengers, you'd think the visual impact of the original would be diluted somewhat, wouldn't you? Yeah, not so much. If anything, this 'Cuda seems more radical and genuinely exotic in 2010 than it has in its forty-year history. (The rest of us should be so lucky.) Look at that freaking backlight surround, will you? Why did it take a crap re-do to make me appreciate what a truly stunning design this is?
(Note Don Garlits Museum license plate frame, btw. Big Daddy!)

Totally agree. Striking cars. Would LOVE one of the Dan Gurney All American Racers version! (even if it was only with the 340) We saw one on the freeway a couple weeks ago, and it was painted up in the mythic "Plum Crazy" purple. Awe-stum pix, too.
I found a Flickr feed with hundreds of scanned car ads from the late-sixties and seventies--POWERFUL STUFF. Some of the Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth ads for the Charger family are particularly fascinating--and real head scratchers--lots of Hippies driving 'Cuda's in the imaginary world of 1969's Mad Men!
Wait now, what's a "backlight surround" again? (I should know this)
My word is "coatio"...a Brazilian seaside resort good for shaggin'?
...Horrible wheels, though (but typical).
My word is "deasmun"...last name for a character in Dickens.
Hey, I've just figured out the "FOLLOW" function on Blogger. I expect increased frequency of action from you!
Word is "fulanade"...which is Portuguese for what I just launched at you with this post.
